Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is currently undergoing an $11 million renovation, being transformed into Pirates Voyage, an indoor dinner show featuring a pirate battle!

"The guest will begin their experience in the Pirates Lair and Crow's Nest for a fun and interactive experience. They will then move into the main arena sectioned into Crimson and Sapphire pirate camps. The Crimson and Sapphire pirates battle each other on deck, in the water and in the sky above their full sized pirate ships in a 15-foot-deep indoor lagoon to the cheers and delight of their fans in the arena. Myrtle Beach to Host Youth Volleyball Tournament

According to WMBF News, a large Volleyball Tournament will be coming to Myrtle Beach January 15th & 16th sponsored by USA Volleyball. The City's goal is to see 150 teams compete in the tournament!

"The Mayor's office received applications from 80 teams within 24 hours of posting the tournament online. The tournament is recognized by USA Volleyball, the sport's national governing body. "What we're hoping is that college coaches might come to recruit some of their players," Grand Strand Juniors Volleyball Club Coach Alex Sing said. He sees the tournament as an opportunity to make the Grand Strand a competitive volleyball contender. Athletes between the ages of 12 and 18 are invited to compete. They will play on one of 16 courts at the convention center, or 6 courts at other locations in the city."

Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach expanding for 2011!

The Sun News reported recently that the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach is expanding!

"Work to add a third field for players ages 13 and older - the complex's eighth field overall - started this week. That $1 million investment will allow between 100 and 140 more teams the chance to play at The Ripken Experience next year [2011]"

"More than 400 teams played during the 10 weeks of summer tournaments. By the end of the tournaments in October [2010], 750 teams had played there this year"

Christmas Activites/Events in Myrtle Beach

1) Carolina Opry Christmas Show
This is by far my favorite Christmas show in Myrtle Beach! If you only do one thing while you're in Myrtle Beach around Christmas.. you have to see this show!

        2) Brookgreen Gardens Night of a Thousand Candles
        December 3-4, 10-11, 16, 17 18, 2010 From 3 - 10 p.m.

This is my second favorite annual Christmas event in Myrtle Beach. Brookgreen Gardens is an amazing place, especially at night lit up with all the candles. 5,000 hand-lit candles! "Walk the paths with a warm cup of cider, hear the sounds of hand bells ringing, carolers singing, and celebrate the season with family and friends."

              3) Palace Theater - Christmas on Ice
I actually haven't seen the Palace Theater's show yet, but I hope to go this year!

              4) Curl up in a room with a fireplace at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes  (see My Favorite Myrtle Beach Hotels)

The two, three, and four bedroom suites at the Marina Inn have in-room fireplaces.. enough said! ;)

              Weekend Itinerary

If you're planning a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach in November/December, the ideal itinerary would be:

              FRIDAY
Arrive Friday afternoon (check-in at Marina Inn at Grande Dunes)
Dinner at City Bar, NY Prime, or Ruth's Chris
Followed by Night of a Thousand Candles
(can by substituted with Palace Theater Christmas on Ice)

                SATURDAY
Breakfast at Waterscapes (at Marina Inn), or at the oceanfront 2nd Avenue Pier
Daytime - Shopping at Coastal Grand Mall, Tanger Outlets, Broadway at the Beach
Dinner at Collectors Cafe, Greg Norman's, Tommy Bahama, or PF Chang
Followed by the Carolina Opry Christmas Show!

                  My Favorite Myrtle Beach Hotels

Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by or affiliated with any of the hotels in Myrtle Beach, these are strictly my own opinions/views.

                  1) Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes
                  •  The Marriott Resort quickly became my favorite hotel after it was built. The landscaping and pool views are absolutely breathtaking. Cuddle up on the oceanfront hammocks before heading up to the room for the night... They also have one of the best spas in Myrtle Beach!

                    2) Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
                    •  Located on the Intercoastal Waterway, the Marina Inn is one of Myrtle Beach's most luxurious/upscale full-service resorts (north end of Myrtle Beach). Watch the boats and yachts going down the waterway, or sit by one of the outside fire pits at night. This hotel is my #2 choice.

                      3) Royale Palms by Hilton
                      • These are condominium units located in the Royale Palms building at the Hilton at Kingston Plantation. The Hilton is on the northern end of Myrtle Beach, away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown Ocean Blvd area.

                        4) Anderson Ocean Club
                        • Anderson Ocean Club one of Myrtle Beach's newest hotels. It is owned by the Oceana Resort Group (they also own Patricia Grand, Camelot by the Sea, Best Western Carolinian), etc. The Anderson Ocean Club is Oceana's luxury hotel (with full-service spa), located downtown on Ocean Blvd.

                          5) Oceans One
                          • This is also one of Myrtle Beach's newest hotels, located in the busier area of downtown Ocean Blvd. If you want to be in the center of the action, Ocean's One has a very new/modern feel at more reasonable rates. Excellent choice for an Ocean Blvd hotel.

                            6) Dunes Village Resort
                            • With granite counter-tops in the rooms, and a 30,000 sq. foot indoor waterpark, I could live at this hotel year-round! The rooms are amazing, but the amenities are really what set this hotel apart (pools, water slides, pool tables, shuffle board, ping-pong, life size checkboard, etc.).

                              7) Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center
                              •  If you're a fan of Starwood hotels (Sheraton, Westin, W, Aloft), you should definitely check out this hotel! It's not ocean front, but if you're on a higher ocean-view floor, you'll have a clear view of the ocean. Great lobby, bar, and lounge area, and there's always something going on at the convention center. If you're lucky enough to be SPG Platinum, this hotel has an amazing Club Lounge!

Broadway at the Beach Tree Lighting

The 2010 Christmas Tree Lighting at Broadway at the Beach is this Saturday November 20th at 7 PM. The musical tree of lights is 52 feet tall and boasts more than 141,000 lights.

To conclude the tree lighting celebration, Broadway at the Beach will host a special fireworks show over Lake Broadway at 8 p.m.

                                WonderWorks to Open March 2011!

The WonderWorks at Broadway at the Beach is scheduled to open March 2011! It sounds amazing.. can't wait to see the building once it's complete!

Update: WonderWorks is NOW OPEN! See
                                http://ilovemyrtlebeach.blogspot.com/2011/05/wonderworks-myrtle-beach.html

"WonderWorks construction is currently 40 percent complete. Once completed, it will appear as a four-story classically-designed building that appears to have landed upside down."

"Exhibits include the hurricane shack, where guests will feel the effects of winds reaching 74 miles per hour; a bed of nails, where visitors will feel the sensation of 3,500 sharp nails; the WonderWall, where people can create a 3-D impression of their bodies by pressing onto a wall made of 40,000 plastic pins; the XD Theater 4-D Extreme Motion Ride, which uses special effects and full-motion seats to take guests along an amazing adventure that transcends time, space and imagination; and Shuttle Landers, where visitors can experience the first-hand challenge and skill needed to land the Discovery Space Shuttle."
